Phil Baroni, a former UFC fighter for over a decade between 2001 and 2011, is currently under investigation following the discovery of his partner’s body in a San Pancho hotel room this past Sunday. Reports indicate that Baroni had been arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of his girlfriend after an argument spurred by her infidelity.

At the time of the incident, the 46-year-old was reportedly under the influence of drugs and alcohol when he began to quarrel with his girlfriend inside their hotel accommodation. Tribuna De La Bahia reports that Baroni allegedly “beat his girlfriend to death” upon her admission of being unfaithful.

When questioned by the police, Baroni admitted that he had thrown his girlfriend into the shower during an argument. Tragically, she then slipped and hit her head before being helped onto their bed, where she passed away just minutes later. Upon discovery, Paola was found to be naked in her bed with a blanket covering her body. Bruises from multiple blows were visible on her face and body. Footage depicting Baroni speaking with police has circulated on social media following the incident, and his own admission of what had transpired led police to discover Paola’s body after he notified them of her unresponsiveness outside the hotel room.

After discovering her body, police arrested Phil Baroni for homicide and began a full investigation into the incident. As a result, he is currently held in custody in Valle de Banderas.

UFC CAREER

The former UFC fighter fought 10 matches as ‘The New York Badass’ between 2001 and 2011, during two spells with the league. He was eventually let go after two losses in 2009, ending his time in the promotion with three wins and seven losses. Baroni’s last MMA match was against Chinese fighter Sai Wang at Rebel FC in 2019, when he was defeated via first-round submission. His recent social media posts showed that he had recently moved to Mexico.
