The “Saved By The Bell” Actor, Mario Lopez, was just promoted to purple belt after competing as a blue belt by his coach Robert Hill. The actor started his BJJ journey in 2017 and was promoted to blue just a year later, in 2018, by his coach, Hill, again. Competing and winning at various tournaments, Lopez dominated the Phoenix Open in his master 4 category bringing home the Gold medal.

Training And Competing with His Son

As a child, Lopez was heavily involved with boxing and wrestling throughout his early years, competing whenever he had the chance. Lopez (49) is now climbing up the ranks of another martial art with his son, BJJ. His son asked Lopez to compete alongside him, where Mario pulled out a gold medal performance with his son watching.

“When your son asks you to compete in the same tournament as him, you do it. You’re never too old to challenge yourself & set goals… Thank you to all the homies who helped get us ready!”

Like many other celebrities and artists, such as Joe Rogan and Chris Hemsworth, Lopez is very vocal with his support of BJJ and doesn’t just talk about it; he walks the walk competing.

Following his recent promotion, Lopez had this to say to his followers.

“This purple belt has been a fun ride… Thank you to my Professors & training partners for elevating my game! JiuJitsu #NextLevel #OnToTheNextOne”
