The ADCC World Championships have long been known as the “Olympics of the submission grappling world,” and winning gold at these tournaments is widely seen as one of the highest honors a no-gi jiu-jitsu athlete can receive. But in an effort to expand their reach, ADCC has announced the launch of several US Open tournaments over the next three months, along with a teaser for an ADCC 2024 World Championship, which will include juvenile and masters divisions.
ADCC tournaments are known for offering far less restrictive rules than those found in IBJJF majors, opening up more attack options during competition, and relaxed uniform policies. Mo Jassim, founder of ADCC, shared his confidence in this expansion via Instagram – boasting that an ‘ADCC takeover’ was just beginning – and it seems like grappling fans everywhere are thrilled about the possibilities.
As the largest organization in sport jiu-jitsu, IBJJF has long been dominating hobbyist athletes’ competitive scene – but with the growth of this open tournament circuit from ADCC, these athletes now have high-prestige options to explore outside of traditional major tournaments.
